Happy New Year, everyone! What better way to celebrate than with a metric ton of new shows and movies on Netflix? That’s exactly what the streaming service has in store for this month, with a bunch of new and returning originals set to drop over the course of the next few weeks. In terms of licensed content, January’s selection is highlighted by all four Indiana Jones movies, Pulp Fiction, The Dark Knight, The Departed, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

As for originals, The Punisher returns for its sophomore season (and what will likely be its last season if Netflix plans to cancel all of its Marvel shows), while Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will wrap up its fourth and final season. And it didn’t quite make our list, but the third season of A Series of Unfortunate Events arrives this month too.

Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp recently introduced the Stickers option. The new feature allows users to send and receive stickers while chatting just like we do in Messenger and other instant messaging apps. In the beginning, there was only a few stickers pack available including the pre-installed one. However, users can download more stickers using the built-in Sticker store. The Sticker store also offers the option to download new stickers from the Google Play Store.

There are several third-party apps and stickers packs available to download, but you’ll rarely find one that you would actually like to share among your friends and family. What if, there’s a way that let you create your own Sticker pack or allows you to convert your photos or selfies into WhatsApp Stickers. Sounds interesting? Them here’s our ready-to-use-guide for you.

WhatsApp Stickers were released this year as a 'new way for people to express themselves with stickers'. "Whether with a smiling teacup or a crying broken heart, stickers help you share your feelings in a way that you can't always express with words. To start, we're launching sticker packs created by our designers at WhatsApp and a selection of stickers from other artists," the company had said in a blog post.

Smart locks can be great when you need to give someone temporary access to your home and don’t want to hand over a copyable key, or you just want to be able to use your smartphone for access to your pad rather than digging through your purse or bag for your keys.

One way you might not be using your smart lock but should is through a smart assistant like Google Home.

When you have your smart lock connected to a voice assistant, particularly Google, you can do things like have the door unlock while you’re headed up the driveway, or unlock the door when guests arrive for a dinner party and you’re still busy in the kitchen. It sounds like something that you’d never need to do —and then you need to do it and it works and it’s awesome.

In order for that to work, you have to first set the feature up (along with a passcode so random passerby can’t unlock your house through an open window). Here’s how that happens:

1.Launch and log into the Google Assistant app
2.Tap the blue drawer icon in the upper right corner
3.Select Settings > Home Control
4.Tap the plus sign icon in the bottom right corner to Add devices
5.Select August Home
6.Sign in with your August account information to
7.Set your security code if you wish to use the unlock feature
8.You will now see your August lock(s) listed in Google Assistant’s Devices section
Once they’re connected up, you can also ask the assistant on your phone (or whenever) if your door is locked, or even closed, which as someone who asks herself this question every night when I’m in bed and about to fall asleep, I can tell you is pretty awesome.

If you have both a smart lock and a smart assistant device, it’s worth seeing if you can connect the two together for some increased functionality.

We’ve all heard that people don’t really change. Your mom will always be close-minded; your ex will always be selfish; and you’ll always be a tiny bit neurotic.

A new report published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology indicates that that’s not exactly true—but it’s going to take a lot more than hoping to change and writing about it in your dream journal to, well, change. It takes concrete action.
How to Change Your Personality, personality,personality test,personality quiz,personality development,personality traits,personality type,good personality,personality types,personality development tips,your personality,test personality,personality tests,strong personality,what is personality,personality quizzes,testing personality,delta's personality,whats my personality,love personality test,tets your personality,love personality quiz,rose personality test

How to Change Your Personality

Reports the British Psychology Society Research Digest:
The results show once again that willful personality change is possible, but they also indicate that the mere desire to change is not sufficient. In fact, failing to support one’s goals with concrete action appears to backfire, leading to personality drift in the opposite direction to what was desired.
Here’s how the study worked: 377 psychology students at Southern Methodist University selected an average of two of the “Big Five” personality traits, which include agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism and openness, that they wanted to change. At the start of each of 15 weeks, the students completed a 60-item personality test and picked challenges to try to change their personality. The challenges became harder over the ensuing weeks (for example, if they wanted to become more extroverted, one week they might need to say hello to a cashier while another week they might need to lead a group project).

Nathan Hudson, an assistant professor in psychology at Southern Methodist who led the study, told BPS that the study seemed to indicate that “the more trait-consistent behavioral challenges that the students successfully completed, the more their personality traits shifted.”

“The single largest implication of our study is that actively engaging in behaviors designed to change one’s personality traits does, in fact, predict greater amounts of trait growth across time,” said Hudson.

On the other hand, accepting a challenge but not sticking with it “was associated with trait change in the opposite direction to what was desired.” It’s unclear why this is the case, though BPS notes that failing to complete a challenge might be so demoralizing participants assumed they weren’t capable of change. “For instance, an introvert who failed to meet the challenge of introducing themselves to a stranger might have adjusted their self-concept to consider themselves even more of an introvert than they had done before,” writes BPS.

So, what does this mean? It’s even more evidence that if you want to make a change, you need to take concrete steps to make it happen. Make a plan, start small and track your habits. But also, give yourself the benefit of the doubt—just because you don’t succeed at first doesn’t mean you never will. But you have to start.

माँ बनने के बाद भी ये 9 बातें कोई नहीं बताता महिलाओं को, आप भी जानिए Nobody tells women these thing after pregnancyजब कोई महिला माँ बनने वाली होती है, तो उसे आने वाले मेहमान और खुद का ध्यान रखने के लिए कई तरह की हिदायतें और राय दी जाती है।

Also: Flipkart & Amazon Clocked $2 Billion Plus In Revenue

Reportedly both Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon India have chucked in more than $2.3 billion in revenue during the Flipkart Big Billion Day sale and Amazon Great Indian Festival last week. Flipkart claimed that it had over 70 percent share of entire Indian e-commerce during the day Big Billions Day sale.

As per a RedSeer consulting report, Flipkart had more than half of GMV for the entire e-commerce industry during those five days of the sale. Flipkart and Amazon had a 62-38 share in the face off.

Interestingly Amazon India strongly disputed the figures saying their gross sales nearly doubled from the last year’s Great Indian Festival sale, and Amazon has a higher share.

The Amazon India spokesperson said that the RedSeer reports are speculative and lack robust and credible methodology.

Flipkart has stayed ahead of Amazon all these years, but the company has worked hard through to match the capabilities. The Dussehra version of the Amazon Great Indian Festival has Prime sign-ups crossing 3X, 60 percent new customer sign-ups and 99 percent orders from pin codes across India in just 4 days.

We will have to wait till the official figures are out by the next quarter. Stay tuned for further updates!

This Valentine’s Day reject is even sweeter because everything isn’t garishy pink and red, and there’s not an “I’m going to be forever alone” existential crisis often accompanying Valentine’s Day.

Sweetest Day falls under the umbrella of ranch, Portillo’s and saying “ope” after accidentally bumping into someone, because it’s a uniquely Midwestern holiday dating back almost a hundred years to when it started in 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Unlike Valentine’s Day, the celebration of Sweetest Day isn’t limited to your significant other. It’s really about taking time to appreciate the amazing people in your life by giving them candy and cards.

Celebrate the end of midterms by going out with your partner and catching up with friends over lunch.

Plus, Sweetest Day is an excuse to post that cute Instagram photo of your friends or to spam everyone with a few dozen photos of your dog.

This holiday is just in time for Halloween and the great deals on candy. While you’re out buying candy for yourself, don’t forget to grab an extra bag for others.

Sweetest Day is celebrated the third Saturday of October, so make today your #sweetestsaturday ever.

Interesting facts about Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October, or today (unless you’re reading this on Sunday).

First known as Candy Day

When the holiday was founded in 1916, trick-or-treating hadn’t become popular, and there was no autumn revenue boost to the candy industry. That’s why the National Confectioners Association created it. It became known as Sweetest Day in the 1920s.

Hoover had concerns

Herbert Hoover, a future president, who was first director of the U.S. Food Administration, didn’t like the holiday at its outset because the country was conserving sugar in the midst of World War I.

Most popular in Midwest

Sweetest Day never gained as much ground nationally as it did in the Great Lakes region. The main states that celebrate sweetness are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

More popular than Mother’s Day?

According to Retail Confectioners International, some retailers say their sales for Sweetest Day are better than their sales for Mother’s Day.

No matter who you are, where you’re from, what you do, or how much money you make, death will eventually touch you. Since the dawn of time, humans have pondered their own mortality. We await the fateful day when our lives will be over . . . and it will happen in an instant.Have you thought about what it will be like to experience the moment of death?Science has a lot to say about the termination of our human consciousness—the moment we expire. Through modern tools and research, we can peer more deeply into what death is and what the experience is like for the subject.
10 Facts About The Moment Of Death From Modern Science
10 Facts About The Moment Of Death From Modern Science

10 AmbiguityAmbiguity surrounds the idea of what it means to be officially dead. There are concepts like “legally dead” and “clinically dead” (which is actually an unclear term). Most people believe that you’re dead when the body reaches a point at which animated life cannot return. Some individuals define death as that moment when the heartbeat stops, while others think it’s when your brain ceases to function. So what is death? There really is no answer. Even if the heart completely fails and the brain has no activity, the circulatory system can still be powered by machines long enough to resuscitate you.So while there is definitely a moment of no return that we all know intuitively exists, death is a process whereby all the biological functions fail one by one until there is simply a complete inability to resuscitate the patient.

What happens to our consciousness when we die?The current scientific framework tells us that consciousness is a by-product of the brain, that the brain creates consciousness through neural activity, and that the death of the brain is the death of consciousness. But consciousness isn’t the whole story.Although questions about consciousness are probably some of the toughest that philosophy and science have ever argued, that isn’t the defining factor of life. Under general anesthesia, all consciousness stops but the patient undergoing surgery is very much alive. Many thinkers, both religious and scientific, have chosen to view consciousness as a spectrum rather than a switch which is either on or off.[2]In general, modern science views organisms as either more or less conscious, starting with the fundamental building blocks of life and evolving all the way up to the prefrontal cortex of human beings who are self-aware.This is a critical concept in understanding the moment of death: What happens to “us,” or the self? If we take the view that consciousness stems from the brain, we simply cease to exist upon the moment of death. Time, experience, thought . . . everything that we know goes away.We undergo the one thing that none of us has ever experienced in our lives—true timelessness, a concept so far removed from any human reality that it’s virtually meaningless to those of us who are alive.

The Brain

Contrary to popular belief, the brain isn’t the last thing to go at the moment of death. Typically, the death of the body follows shortly after brain death. In most nations, “brain death” is generally defined as zero activity within the brain stem, which is the most rudimentary portion of the brain. From there, all other brain activity and larger systems operate. The brain stem links the spinal cord (and thus the entire nervous system) with the portions of the brain that control thought and emotion, like the prefrontal cortex or the hippocampus. As in zombie movies, if the brain stem is dead, the person likely dies with it. In essence, the death of the brain stem is the death of the organism because the brain stem controls all the vital bodily functions like respiration.Without a functioning brain stem, all these systems begin to shut down. Currently, the death of the brain stem is the final moment of brain death and often the point of legal death in most countries. When the heart stops beating, it’s estimated that the brain can survive up to a maximum of about six minutes. Even then, brain damage will be significant.[3]No matter what starts the chain of events that causes a person to die, the death of the brain stem is always the cause of death—even for a heart attack or drowning victim. If the brain dies, the body may live on for a few minutes. But a body isn’t truly dead until the brain stem loses all functioning.

Brain Activity

Here’s another counterintuitive occurrence at the moment of death: As the body becomes deprived of oxygen on the cellular level, brain activity actually heightens. Although ethical doctors aren’t using fMRI machines on their dying patients, research shows that the brain goes berserk in animals, lighting up like a fireworks display at the time of death. When a rat’s heart stops, its brain goes into overdrive in all areas known to produce consciousness. This process isn’t wholly understood, but it’s believed to produce what we call the near-death experience—the extraordinary sensations, sights, sounds, memories, and other experiences of people who are revived shortly after death.

The fact that the brain goes into overdrive is reported to create a heightened sense of awareness in the person undergoing death. Without delving too far into the paranormal, individuals who have returned from the other side describe lights that were brighter than can be imagined in waking life as well as sensations, smells, tastes, and other events that are completely out of this world. Some see this as a religious encounter. But scientists view these experiences as the result of the stimulation of the brain at the moment of death. If we look at consciousness as a spectrum, the instant right before death is when we’re technically the most alive. It’s a bizarre twist of fate. The final moment of consciousness before total unconsciousness is the most conscious we will ever be. Poetic, isn’t it?

Individuals who have had near-death experiences (NDEs) often report an extreme distortion of time. Many have paranormal explanations for this phenomenon. But concrete science and first-person accounts aplenty report that time seems to slow down to a crawl or stop altogether. Some people claim that time loses all meaning in the moments leading up to and during death. In studies by Bruce Greyson, up to 70 percent of participants who had experienced an NDE reported time distortion, especially the slowing down of time. Broader studies spanning decades have also noted this phenomenon, solidifying it into the world of psychology and modern science.Hopefully, further research will enlighten us on these two obscure and elusive subjects: consciousness and time.

Biological Death

Although the “moment” of death can be quite ambiguous even in a clinical setting, the concept extends beyond the death of the brain stem—the so-called point of no return. That extension is biological death.Even after a subject has reached the point where they are unable (as of now) to be brought back from death, many cells in the body are still very much alive—but dying. This raises some deep questions pertaining to the nature of the self: What are we? Are we the consciousness which is extinguished or transcends at death, or are we the totality of the body’s cells?Modern science is conflicted on this issue and probably will be for a long time. Scientists note that we are both physical, material beings and an “inner self.” This is the experience portion of the self—and the only part we ever truly, intimately know.So when are we dead? Is it when the inner self is gone? Or is it when the last cell in our body finally dies?

At least for a natural death, there seems to be a somewhat predictable rhythm to when you will die. Much like the body’s circadian rhythm, researchers are discovering that we may have built-in biological death cycles as well. The circadian rhythm is the biological clock that regulates more than sleep. It controls our moods, our appetites, and much more. As it turns out, people who die in the morning have different biological clocks and even brain compositions than people who die at night.Even stranger, researchers in California decided to push this one step further to see what differences were in the brains of people who died suddenly through trauma (unnatural deaths). Although our brain rhythms can’t “know” when we’re going to die in a car accident, researchers found the same cyclical pattern of protein differences in these brains as in those of people who had died from natural causes.[8]This means that some changes to the brain that are part of the person’s cycle are an aftereffect that’s set to transpire the moment we die.

Many different genes activate at the moment of death, although researchers aren’t sure why. It gets even weirder: Some genes continue to switch on for quite a while after death.Traditionally, it was assumed that genes, like cells, simply die off slowly one by one. But this idea has now been turned on its head. In a dead organism, some formerly inactive genes turn on—from 24 hours after death up to several days after death. We’re not talking about one or two genes, either. In zebra fish and mice, researchers have observed more than 500 genes activating up to 48 hours after the death of the organism.

All of this suggests that there is still enough “life” in these genes after the death of the cells (as there is enough life in the cells after the death of the brain stem) to keep on living. As science and technology advance, the moment of death is further delayed. At one point, we presumed that a person without a heartbeat was dead. Now we’re starting to see the bigger picture—that this gradient which is the moment of death is quite flexible. And all these discoveries about death have brought about new discussions, experiments, and thoughts about life.[10]Firms around the world are seizing on these concepts in the hopes that medical science can someday make death reversible, at least up to a certain point. We are now looking at ways to reverse brain death and bring people back from that point of no return. Before we write this off as wishful thinking, remember that some animals regrow whole limbs or have severed limbs that grow into new organisms. The supposed line between life and death is quite flimsy. Time will tell how successful we are in our endeavors to understand the final moments of our lives and how many more discoveries regarding the moment of death are yet to be made.

Mankind has formed a special bond with dogs ever since we’ve been able to train them to do various tasks. Hunting, guarding, and herding were some of the most popular uses for dogs throughout history. Today, we use them to catch fleeing criminals, find hidden drugs, and be our loyal companions. The following stories recount just how loyal dogs are—from staying by your side during excruciatingly difficult situations to sacrificing their very lives to protect you from a wild animal attack. As it turns out, dogs would never hesitate to jump into life-threatening situations to save their owners or even complete strangers.

Asthma Attack

In Cleckheaton, England, a nine-year-old Jack Russell named Jess managed to save her owner’s life after some quick actions. Rebecca Brookes, Jess’s owner, started experiencing a severe asthma attack one day. In the midst of her uncontrollable coughing and gasping for breath, Jess sensed the danger and promptly fetched Rebecca’s inhaler from her room.Once Rebecca recovered from her asthma attack, she decided to see if it was just a coincidence that her dog came to her rescue. She placed her inhaler in a different room and coughed a little to see what Jess would do. Much to Rebecca’s surprise, Jess started looking for the hidden inhaler, found it, and brought it to her owner.[1]Rebecca told her dad about it. He tried to get a reaction out of Jess and started coughing as well. Yet, as a definitive display of her intelligence, Jess knew that he was just pretending and didn’t really need an inhaler. After her heroic feat in saving her owner, Jess grew to be a real help by fetching Rebecca’s car keys, her shoes, and even her letters.

Rattlesnake Bite

In Anthem, Arizona, Paula Godwin decided to treat her dogs to a refreshing hike outside. While taking a leisurely stroll on a hiking trail, Todd the golden retriever noticed that Godwin was about to step on a rattlesnake lurking on the path.Just as the rattlesnake pulled back to strike, the young pup jumped in the way and absorbed the devastating impact of the strike, sustaining a gruesome bite on his snout. Godwin rushed little Todd to a local animal hospital for immediate treatment.[2]Amazingly, Todd survived the rattlesnake bite and made a full recovery. Godwin shared the whole ordeal on social media, where the story spread like wildfire. A crowdfunding account was opened in honor of Todd to gather enough funds to help other pet owners who face the threat of similar injuries in the area due to the abundance of venomous snakes and reptiles.

Home Invasion

In Louisville, Kentucky, a woman credited her rescue dog with helping to fight off a man who had broken into her home. Layla the pit bull was rescued by Kelsey Leachman back in 2016 when Leachman found the dog malnourished and covered in pests like ticks and fleas. Then Layla returned the favor and rescued Leachman. On the night of the incident, Layla and her owner were in the living room watching television when the dog started getting uneasy. The tense pit bull ran into the kitchen, barking and growling all the way. Obviously sensing that something was wrong, Leachman got up to investigate.Standing in her kitchen was a man she didn’t recognize. Leachman decided to make a run for her front door, but the mysterious man ran after her and tackled her to the ground. Layla was barking and biting at the man’s legs the whole time, and Leachman was able to get out from under her attacker with the help of her loyal pit bull.Layla scared off the intruder by chasing him out of the house. Leachman called the police right away, and they arrived at the scene with their canine unit to track the suspect. Unfortunately, the dogs lost the suspect’s scent at a nearby high school. It is assumed that he drove off in a car.Leachman was eternally grateful for her pet’s valiant efforts, stating that she couldn’t have overpowered the intruder by herself.

House Fire

A family from Bastrop County, Texas, adopted a dog named Chrome at Bastrop County Animal Shelter in 2017. Laura Smith, Chrome’s owner, was sleeping in her home with her two boys one night when Chrome woke her up at around 1:00 AM. Chrome stayed with her until she realized that her home was on fire. Then Chrome took off to get the two boys. Everyone managed to get out of the house before the blaze consumed the house and nearly all their possessions.Smith believes that the fire was due to bad electrical wiring in one of the walls of her home. Yet the house sustained so much damage that an official cause of the fire couldn’t be determined. As the house is situated so far from the station, it took 11 minutes for the fire truck to arrive.St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elgin provided the Smith family with some living arrangements. Meanwhile, the Bastrop County Animal Shelter pitched in by raising $1,000 to help them get back on their feet. Chrome also received a bountiful amount of dog food and treats as well as a certificate for “heroic acts of bravery and love.”

Trapped Under Quad Bike

A 56-year-old man from Central Queensland rolled his quad bike at Bondoola on a rural property. He was pinned underneath his bike and unable to get help. The man was stuck there for an entire night and suffered from hypothermia.Yet everything could have been worse if it wasn’t for his trusty cattle dog keeping him warm. A neighbor out for a ride on his horse noticed the overturned quad bike and stopped to help by calling emergency services.Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service crewman Garth Snaidero confirmed that the man might not have survived without his dog. The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, and the dog went along as well. Believed to be a Smithfield cross, the canine rescuer appeared to be in good spirits and even took a liking to the helicopter’s pilot.

Bear Attack

In Black Mountain, North Carolina, Tiffany Merrill let her 2.2-kilogram (5 lb) toy poodle named Pickle outside their home for his morning walk on August 31, 2018. The door was barely open for a moment when an aggressive and seemingly fearless bear came bursting through.According to Merrill, the bear weighed 68–91 kilograms (150–200 lb). Fearing for her life, Merrill screamed for her children to close their bedroom doors. She dived behind her couch before the bear could pounce on her. Yet, Pickle was able to distract the bear and lead it outside the house.Once outside, the bear and the poodle attacked each other ferociously. As the bear retreated, Merrill rushed to her dog’s aid and took him to a vet. But it was too late.Pickle the toy poodle had sustained too many life-threatening injuries and died saving the life of his owner. Merrill was only slightly injured during the whole ordeal. She sustained a sprained ankle and a sore back. The bear is still on the loose. All the authorities could do was to inform Merrill that she could shoot the bear the next time she felt threatened.

Jane Lavergne from Ottawa, Canada, lives with a lung disease and relies on an oxygen tank to help her breathe. One night, she noticed that she was struggling more than usual to breathe properly. So she decided to sleep on the couch in the living room downstairs to be more elevated.Yet, she collapsed and passed out the next morning when she tried to reach for a glass of water. Her 11-year-old Yorkie-Pomeranian mix, Noah, noticed what was happening and ran upstairs. He barked incessantly at the door of Lavergne’s husband, Ken, in an effort to wake him up.Luckily, Noah’s efforts paid off. Ken got up and noticed his wife slumping unnaturally on the couch, which prompted him to call 911. The ambulance arrived to take Jane to the hospital, where doctors discovered that she was suffering from pneumonia.[7]Combined with her lung disease, the pneumonia caused the collapse. Jane was placed on life support when her husband arrived at the hospital. The ambulance driver told Ken that Jane was minutes away from succumbing to her condition. Fortunately, Noah’s vigilance saved her.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

In Lake View, New York, Ronene Ando and her husband, Chris, are advocates for pit bulls and even own one called Ruby. She’s a trained therapy dog for the “Paws for Love” initiative with the local SPCA.One night, Ruby barked incessantly for nearly an hour and a half. As she’s normally an attentive, well-trained dog, the couple knew that something was seriously wrong. Once the couple started looking for a reason why Ruby was barking, they noticed the smell of propane in the air. This was probably due to the newly installed propane heater in their basement. The couple was able to escape their house before carbon monoxide poisoning could occur, and it’s all thanks to Ruby’s keen sense of smell and intuition.

Saving Hikers

In Girdwood, Alaska, a man lives close to the 39-kilometer-long (24 mi) Crow Pass Trail. His name is Scott Swift, and he is the proud owner of Nanook the Alaskan husky. Nanook loves to follow hikers on their journeys and learned the whole route by heart. Swift is so used to it that he doesn’t even mind when he notices that his dog is gone. One day, Amelia Milling, a student from the Rochester Institute of Technology, was doing a three-day solo hike on the Crow Pass Trail when she lost her footing and fell 183 meters (600 ft) down an icy mountain. Out of nowhere, Nanook came to her aid. He stayed by her side and guided her back to the main path. Unfortunately, Milling slipped while trying to cross a river. For the second time, Nanook came to her rescue and helped her paddle to safety.Milling wormed her way into her sleeping bag to preserve her declining body temperature. At first, she thought that she would be able to recover from the unexpected dip. But once she realized she was about to pass out, she hit the “SOS” button on her satellite messenger. Nanook helped to keep her awake by licking her face. Soon, a helicopter arrived to take her to safety. After that, Nanook’s owner engraved his collar with the words “Crow Pass Guide Dog.” Much later, Swift realized that his dog was not only accompanying other hikers but also saving their lives. Since Milling’s ordeal, Nanook has saved three other hikers. At least, those were the ones that Swift knew about. He soon started a social media page to find other people helped by his young pet. After a few days, dozens of rescue stories started surfacing. The most astonishing fact about Nanook is that he wasn’t trained to be a rescue dog. In fact, he was adopted by Swift at an adopt-a-pet event at a local shopping center parking lot.

Car Crash

Charles Bailey from Cape Breton Island sustained a concussion days before he drove through New Waterford, Nova Scotia. He blacked out at the wheel, causing his truck to collide with a telephone pole. The vehicle tumbled over several times before coming to a stop in the middle of the woods, out of sight from the passing traffic nearby.Bailey spent 10 hours in his truck, completely unconscious. When he came to, he found himself in a bed at a Halifax hospital, recovering from a brain hemorrhage.Even though Bailey has no recollection of the crash, his mother firmly believes that his dog, Dallas, is the reason why he is still alive. His extraordinary dog was by his side the whole time, providing him with heat and keeping some of his limbs from sustaining serious frostbite damage. It was only when Dallas was seen running along the road close to the crashed car that someone was able to find the unconscious man. Along with the brain hemorrhage, Bailey sustained third-degree frostbite damage to his right foot and a fracture in one of his spinal discs. His arm also had to be cut up to release the intense blood pressure.

Yesterday, social media rumors began circulating that 50 crore or almost 50% of all mobile connections in India are at risk, due to Aadhaar KYC.

Several mainstream media shared this news, because it had a logic behind it – Supreme Court has ordered all telecom operators and private companies to delete Aadhaar data of users.

Now, once Aadhaar data is deleted, then the telcom operator won’t have any KYC of the user, and this means disconnection.
Govt. has assured no SIM will be disconnected due to Aadhaar
Govt. has assured no SIM will be disconnected due to Aadhaar
Panic began to set in, as mobile users all across the nation began to question the future.

After the outcry, both DoT and UIDAI had to come out, and issue clarifications.

Besides, leading telecom lobby COAI also stepped in, and said that due to the change in KYC model, services won’t be disruppted. However, for that, an alternative KYC needs to be shared.

Govt. of India: No Mobile Will Be Disconnected Due To KYC Issue

Crores of new mobile connections have been issued, solely based on Aadhaar KYC, and if the telecom companies are required to delete this Aadhaar data, then some inconvenience will happen.

However, Govt. of India has assured that no mobile connection will be disconnected.

A senior DoT official said, “We will ensure that customers services are not affected. Whatever arrangements are put in place it will facilitate a smooth transition from the current regime to the Supreme Court-compliant regime.”

At the same time, Govt. has admitted that 25-30 crore mobile users can face some inconvenience, as a new round of KYC will have to be done. This means submitting new documents as verification, other than Aadhaar.

Alternative KYC At The Time Of Issuing New SIM

On Wednesday and Thursday, representatives of the telecom industry, and the Department of Telecom held meetings to chalk out alternatives of Aadhaar-KYC while issuing new SIM cards.

A proposal has been mooted, wherein a new app will be created, for SIM sellers.

At the time of issuing new SIM, this app will embed the customer enrollment form, along with time-stamped, and a geo-tagged photograph of the customer, along with any identity proof such as PAN Card, Voter ID Card, Passport etc.

Although Aadhaar is a valid ID proof, the ise of Aadhaar as KYC will be avoided, as well as storage of Aadhaar data will be avoided, as per Supreme Court ruling.

More details are awaited on this regard.

COAI: Aadhaar Can Be Deleted With Alternative KYC

Meanwhile telecom players’ lobby COAI has assured that Aadhaar details linked with any user can be deleted, by providing an alternative KYC.

COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said, “Telecom players had a meeting with the Department of Telecom and they have been clarified that customers willing to get their Aadhaar details deleted from telecom operator data base should be allowed to do so against valid identity and address proof,”

COAI has also assured that during the transition from Aadhaar to non-Aadhaar KYC, no mobile number will be disconnected, and services won’t be hampered.

Now, it would be interesting to observe how a smooth transition takes place, and how soon can it be done.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.

I have not been back to Chipotle since the Great Queso Debacle of 2019—cheese-related heartbreak takes the longest to heal—but I still have a soft spot for their cilantro-lime rice. It is, fortunately, not very hard to replicate and home, and it can be made with cilantro stems.

This is part of Eating Trash With Claire, a Lifehacker series where Claire Lower convinces you to transform your kitchen scraps into something edible and delicious.
Make Chipotle-Style Rice With Cilantro Stems
Make Chipotle-Style Rice With Cilantro Stems

Cilantro gets a lot of love (and hate) but it’s the leaves that usually get all the attention. However, the stems have a ton of flavor, and they can be used to flavor marinades, stocks, salsas, and—my personal favorite—rice. Just add a half a cup of finely chopped stems to three cups of uncooked rice, along with a teaspoon of salt, a drizzle of olive oil, and a bay leaf, then cook however you usually would. (If you don’t have a rice cooker, check out our stove-top guide to perfect rice.) Once the rice is done cooking, fluff with a fork, then toss with a quarter cup of fresh lime juice and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Taste, add a little more salt if needed, and use it to make your very own burrito bowl in the comfort of your kitchen. (I’d recommend using sous vide carnitas or this kimchi pork shoulder, with plenty of grilled, pickled corn.)

Last weekend, I approached the beer coolers at my regular grocery store and chuckled to myself at the hushed line of people assembled there, awash in the fluorescent-white glow. Eyes glazed, slightly slack-jawed, shoppers of all ages stared at the hundreds of options with expressions of lobotomized bewilderment. Surely beer shopping shouldn’t be this befuddling?

But it is, sometimes even for me. With nearly 7,000 breweries operating in America, the fight for shelf space and customers’ attention grows ever more competitive. Neon colors, over-the-top beer names, ultra-minimal can designs, cats shooting laser beams out of their eyes—nothing seems to stand out anymore. And thus, we become zombie shoppers, shuffling along in a daze, reluctantly grabbing a six-pack that looks cool, and hoping for the best.
5 tips for choosing better beer at the grocery store
5 tips for choosing better beer at the grocery store

There is a better way. The five suggestions below might not always get you a beer that changes your life, but they’ll get you closer to a fresh beer experience. As with previous pieces in this series—5 rules for better drinking at a beer bar, and 5 beer-menu rules I wish all bars would follow—this guidance is intended to help you close the distance between you and a pint of something tasty. Beer shopping’s true letdown is stale beer—everything else is just part of beer exploration.

1. Go straight for the fridge

Most grocery stores have both coolers and room-temperature shelves of beer—you want to concentrate on the former. Temperature fluctuations and heat are the enemy of fresh-tasting beer; every brewery would prefer its beer be shipped, stored, and displayed cold. I narrow down the grocery options by focusing entirely on the refrigerated section.

2. Check date codes, if you can

With the exception of cellaring or aging beer, 99 percent of the time, you want to buy the freshest beer possible. And that’s doubly true when it comes to IPAs whose volatile hop compounds begin to degrade after a few months, or delicate styles like pilsners that don’t have strong flavors to mask the taste of aging malts.

It’s not always easy to know when your beer was born, but some breweries add date codes to their beers. Those dates can reflect when the beer was brewed; some reflect a “best by” date; there’s no standard. You might have to whip out your phone to Google a specific brewery’s date-coding conventions, but it’s worth it to ensure your beer hasn’t sat on a shelf for eight months. (Note to breweries: My kingdom for date codes that drinkers can actually decipher!)

3. When it doubt, choose cans

I pick cans over bottles 90 percent of the time, and not just because they’re easier to crush and pack into a recycling bin. Cans keep light out more effectively than bottles, which is another important factor in beer freshness. Light can cause beer to skunk or otherwise degrade the flavors we desire, so a package that’s impervious to light is going to keep beer fresher. Of course, if a beer I love only comes in bottles, I’ll make an exception, but if I was deciding between two unfamiliar IPAs—one in a can, one in a bottle—I’d choose the former.

4. Shop seasonally

The beer aisle isn’t exactly a farmer’s market, but when you’re searching for the freshest beer styles, it can help to keep the seasons in mind. In September, a local brewery’s Oktoberfest beer is bound to be pretty fresh. (If you’re shopping at a store with year-old Oktoberfest, turn around and leave.) In December, a spruce-tip ale or a Christmas beer should hit the spot; ditto a summer ale in July. This isn’t a hard-and-fast “rule”—IPAs, porters, and amber ales are brewed year round, for example—but choosing beer with an eye toward the weather does keep me from falling into my same-old, same-old rut.

5. Reach into the sale bin at your own risk

I’m not saying the beer sale shelf is analogous to the meat department’s “manager’s special,” but… okay, maybe I am. Beer pricing is a strange and complicated process, a dance between the retailer, the distributor, and the brewery that’s becoming an increasingly thorny issue as more breweries vie for your bucks.

Yes, sometimes you just happen upon a great deal on some fresh beer (I got a six-pack of tasty Full Steam Lager for something like $5.99 at my grocery store two months ago). But stuff that’s reduced for quick sale might also be on its way out, freshness-wise, so double-check date codes and avoid beers that don’t have them.

The exception to the rule: Sometimes my local store has an “old” beer on sale that actually ages quite well—an imperial stout, a barleywine, etc. In that case, you might find a gem from a year prior that’s essentially been “cellared” for you. Of course, you’re rolling the dice on whether the store kept it in proper storage, away from light and heat.
