Top five hidden gems of South India you should visit

If you've ever traveled to the South of India, you would know what the 'other' part of our country is worth. From beautiful backwaters to amazing beaches and wonderful waterfalls, South India has a lot to offer. And the story doesn't end there, the southern part of the country is home to many serene secret spots. Here are five hidden gems of South India.

#1 Varkala
A paradise for hippies as they call it, Varkala in Kerala is a great getaway for all the laid-back souls out there.
A relaxing town in every sense of the word, Varkala will get you high on traces of hippie culture, spirituality and its beautiful beaches.
Also, consider taking a tour to the Janardhanaswamy temple and enjoy the heavenly cuisine of God's own country.

#2 Araku Valley
Located in the midst of three magnificent mountains viz. Galikonda, Raktakonda and Chitamogondi, close to the Odisha state border on the Eastern Ghats, the spellbinding Araku Valley is a treat for the lovers of nature and wildlife.
What's more? The largely untouched valley, famed for its coffee plantations, is well connected by both road and rail to the city of Vishakapatnam.

#3 Athirapilly Falls
The 80ft high Athirapilly Falls, dropping gracefully into the Chalakudy river at the Sholayar Forest Range in Thrissur district of Kerala is a sight to behold.
Surrounded by evergreen forest ranges and amazing wildlife, the tallest falls in Kerala are just the place to head to, if you are looking at a serene nature-inspired outing with little to get distracted by.

#4 Coorg
For its striking resemblance with plantations in UK, its misty and pleasant weather, and the beautiful mountains, Coorg was, by its Scot planters, termed the 'Scotland of India'.
The Karnataka town embraces its visitors with its blissful waterfalls, lakes, coffee plantations, and delicious cuisine.
Also, take a guided tour to the coffee plantations, go bird-watching, take a trek, or opt for long nature walks.

#5 Gokarna
The sleepy little town of Gokarna is another hidden gem you must visit in South India.
Although the town is mainly popular among Hindu pilgrims, it's a delight for everyone looking to sneak a nice weekend getaway.
So go there, and enjoy some thoughtless beach basking.
What's more? Gokarna receives enough rainfall to make temperatures pretty comfortable.
